Spurred on by a great weekend at Duxford and rather missing my flying with the Dogz I am once again giving some serious thought into building a new rig. With just 5 mins at ebuyer, i've come up with the following list as a guide to my requirements/budget. If you guys could steer me towards better combinations of parts or better deals or any thing at all that would really help. GFX will be courtesy of Fruitbat/Fenrir in the way of a 280 I believe, until I have some more cash to throw at a new card! Should I go for a SSD drive for OS/applications straight off? Jediteo Posted July 2, 2012 Share Posted July 2, 2012 The i5 3570K is the new Ivybridge patten 22nm instead of the sandy bridge 32nm. It is clocked slightly higher, and has slightly better support for things such as pci-e 3.0 and should have a lower power consumption (which should lead to a lower temp, but I've read reports of it being slightly hotter due to the die-shrink). Jediteo Posted July 2, 2012 Share Posted July 2, 2012 Intel is your best bet these days. I use a 17-2600k (they didn't have the i5 in stock). As I said, it's personal, but I have misgivings over the longevity/reliability of SSD drives. Rest of it looks good from a first glance.
