Modding Silent Hunter 5

I originally made these instructions for CaptJack and JoeBob, but when I was done, thought some other Dogz might find it useful. So, here it is....

Why give SH5 another try you ask? The failings of the stock game have been fixed by modders and actually enhanced far beyond what you would expect! Take a look at the tutorial channel at the end of this post for some good videos on the new user interface. Or just search Youtube for silent hunter 5 mods and take a look.

The entire user interface has been redesigned and is highly customizable. You have a basic choice of using a SH3, SH4, or SH5Ehanced style UI. Once that is chosen, you have tons of options you can tweak to change it in a config file. And also many options within the game in new option screens and menus.

There are a ton of mods available for download, and SubSim.com has a downloads section. But for some reason the modders don't seem to be putting their mods there all the time. So, you can't just look in the SubSim downloads section to find the best and latest stuff. You need to look in the forums for lnks.. I had fps problems when I was trying to figure out which mods to use on my own; using other mods. But some forum members helped me get the best mods, and here is what they said. Use mega mods! And tweak from there...

1. Start from a Fresh Install... Delete the game and all its traces off the PC, reinstall the game

2. In 'support' folder you'll find 'gu'-folder (game updater). Launch it and the game should be patched to v.1.2 automatically. It is not a quick process so just follow all the instructions. The patch is installed when the activation window will appear (account name + passport).

3. Start a Campaign and Play the tutorial without any mods installed, you'll be autosaved in bunker. Make sure you are DOCKed and saved. Exit to Windows, install JSGME into Ubisoft/Silent Hunt 5/

4. Download the mods into a folder on your desktop. Just keep them there till you read the rest of this and watch the video instructions below:

Magnum Opus v0.0.1

Magnum Opus Patch 2
Get these here: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=176123
This MO mod really upgrades the graphics (textures, fog, environment) in the game.

NewUIs_TDC_6_8_0_ByTheDarkWraith

Add-On mods for this
Get these here: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=166093
This makes the user interface much, much better. It adds tons of new customizable features, and has an options file where you can tell it to use SH3, SH4, or SH5Enhanced (default). So, you can change it and tweak the UI and game much more.

IRAI_0_0_30_ByTheDarkWraith
Get this mod here: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=171973

FX_Update_0_0_19_ByTheDarkWraith
Newer version of the FX_Update mod. Get it here: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=174511

5. Now, watch these videos on how to install it all. The information is good, but the video quality sucks at times but is watchable. He posted these videos 8 months ago, so some things have changed. (see NOTE below)
Basically, he has you import and enable the Environment mods first, then the UI mods, and then game tweaks. Also, there is an Antilag .dll that helps with the mouse lag due to the game overprocessing too many fps at times.
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=1629509&postcount=27

How to configure and instal Magnum Opus megamod for SH5
Part 1
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3IruuragVzY

Part 2
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMTS3lTZ7uM

Part 3
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Px-uuhFo2rU

NOTE:
a ) Some mods mentioned by stoianm (NewUI, IRAI, FX_Update) already have new versions, which could be found on the forums in the SH5 Mods Workshop. But I think some or all may have already incorporated into these other two main mods. I just installed the mods I posted links to above. I did not download the IRAI or FX_Update mods. And on my laptop it seems to work fine and look awesome. I am in the process of install this all on my desktop now as well. I may try and figure out those other two missing mods. But I am guessing they may already be built into these two main mega mods.

b ) D3D9 Antilag is applied not via JSGME, but with copying the .dll, .cgg files to the game directory Ubisoft/Silent Hunt 5. But I just made that a jsgme mod that copies the dll and config files into the root of the game. That seems to work fine.

6. Load the saved in bunker game, resave it one more time, exit to Windows and then load again, and everything should work perfect (if you done all the steps properly)

Voice Control Tutorial

MY VOICE CONTROLLER TUTORIAL
Tried to use shoot before but I couldn't get it to work at the time so this is a great alternative. I'd actually say MVC is better but I can't compare the two because I never actually used Shoot . Shoot may have just needed AutoIt installed or something similar but I just found this instead and used it successfully for quite some time. Tried using shoot again today just to check it out but you have to install a dotnet fix for with Win 7 and Windows reported an incompatibility issue with the fix so I'm not messing with it any more. My Voice Controller works and doesn't require any dotnet fixes for Win7 though it does for XP but that fix actually works. I'll make up a new IL-2 profile for it and post it in the next day or so if anyone is interested. There is a basic one I have included named Default.mvc. Making your own profiles is easy too. Supports macros and all that jazz so its great for things like commanding your wingmen to assist you, break off, return to base or whatever. I highly recommend checking it out. The performance really good. Blah blah, blah blah blah...

The main download for My Voice Controller is broken but I just happened to have a copy of the latest version. You can also go to the MVC forums for more information http://5hyphen.com/phpBB2/

STEP:1

If you're still on Windows XP you may need to install the dotNetFx35setup.exe as well as the SpeechSDK51.exe but fear not homies I dun hooked you up, it's all in the zip. Then set up your voice recognition by clicking on the Voice Recognition icon in your control panel. You do remember how to get to your control panel don't you? If you've previously set up voice recognition in Windows XP you should be fine already. If your using Windows 7 you don't have to bother with any of this.

STEP:2

Now install AutoIt-v3-setup.exe (Pretty sure there is a newer version of AutoIt but I know this one works) so if you install the latest version let me know if it works cause I don't feel like doing it right now and this is the version I have installed and it works fine. The reason for installing this is that some programs, mostly games like Half-life 2, have built in macro and script protection to prevent player from exploiting the game or pressing key combos faster then humanly possible. They often will not except simulated key strokes from external programs but AutoIt can circumvent much of this. You may or may not need this for IL-2 but if you want to use My Voice Controller with other games you should have it.

STEP:3

2nd Copy the My_Voice_Controller_Self_Install_v1_8_11_20 folder to your C:/program files(x86)/ directory if your in Windows 7 or just your C:/program files/ if you're in XP. Then RIGHT click on the My Voice Controller.exe and click send to desktop to create a desktop shortcut which you can then put in your start/programs/whatever folder or just leave it on the desktop I really don't care where you put it.|=^)}

STEP 4:

Anyways, when you Win 7 users start up the program it is going to start you voice recognition setup for windows, at least it will if you haven't set it up already as I hadn't. If you've already set up your voice recognition in 7 I don't know if it will bring up the setup wizard or not.

Once your voice recognition is set up start My Voice Controller and this will open the main MVC windows.

ATTENTION: FOR WINDOWS 7 USERS, READ THIS. FOR XP USERS SKIP TO THE NEXT PARAGRAPH

Your Windows 7 Voice control window with the mic on it should also open at the top of your screen and say "sleeping" in the status window. Say "Start Listening" if you have voice activation set up, or if you have it disabled hit the hot key combo to start listening (I think its Cntl + Windows key. The status of the Windows Voice Control window should change to say "listening".

STEP:6

Ok Now that MY Voice Controller is open and running focus on the main window and on the upper left click on file/load profile. Click on Default.mvc to load that profile. Then look in the main status box under then information tab of the My Voice Controller program. The first line should read "Last Speech Recog:" with some blue text next to it. Say aloud either "show map" or "external". Look to see if it recognizes the command. Then next line will say "Last Command:" with blue text next to it saying "sendkeyaim". If you want to add voice commands go to file/edit profile then to add new line one like this: toggle gear|(sendkeyai:PGUP)

The "toggle gear" will be what you say to trigger the keystroke(s) and the sendkeyai: (the "ai" pipes it through AutoIt)is the key to be pressed to make your gear toggle, in this case PGUP. As long as PGUP is assigned to your toggle gear in the game controls when you say "toggle gear" the program will simulate the PGUP key stroke through AutoIt and to IL-2 which will then perform the assigned function.

Here is the default profile sample profile Olddefault.mvc, I created a new default for IL-2 which is the default.mvc you loaded in step 6 but this original one has all the comments to help explain what does what. Hope you like it, works best with a headset. If anyone needs help customizing there profiles let me know. Other profile examples can be found here http://5hyphen.com/p...763230f3246d131
Using voice commands really gives you an nice advantage too. Hope you enjoy, see you online.

How To Mod Your 4.10.1 Install - Part 2.

For those of you that don't like the way the planes are organised in the QMB with the sas mod activator, its easy to change back to standard.

you need to navigate to here,

and dash out the 'air.ini', and rename the '-original air' as 'air.ini', as shown above, job done.

What other mods can you use.

Basically anything without classfiles will be fine.

a classfile looks like this,

cockpit repaints, map repaints are all pretty much fine, I've also made a version of plutonium effects, in which i removed the classfiles that works OK, although it obviously has some missing features compared to the full version (still miles better than stock effects).

In our teamspeak server, myself and TOAD have uploaded quite a few mods that work in 4.10.

these can be accessed by right clicking on the main lobby in teamspeak, and then clicking on 'open file browser'.

and in a folder marked mods for 4.10

theres mods zippped up that we've checked with 4.10.

mods that i have in my 4.10.1 install, are shown below,

At SAS now, they are starting to mark all the mods either 4.09, 4.09/4.10 or 4.10, so this will make life easier for you if your unsure.

hope this helps, and fire away any questions,

How To Mod Your 4.10.1 Install - Part 1

Hi guys, in this thread i'll try to explain and show how to mod your 4.10.1 install, in easy steps, so you can have your 6dof/sounds etc.....

first off, you will need a fresh install patched up to 4.10.1

Warning, you cannot 'mod' a 4.10.1 install derived from the UP2.01 pack.

Then you will need to download some stuff from SAS.

first off the mod activator found here,

next the latest buttons found here, (need these as the mod activator ships with offline buttons, and we need the online ones to solve online smoke bugs).

http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,97.0.html

and optional, although i highly recommend unless your name is FT, the jsgme sound pack found at the bottom of the mod activator post, see above for link.

Step 1.

Extract the mod activator into your 4.10.1 install, either directly, or by into its own folder, and then copying the contents into your il2 install, overwriting when asked.

contents of the mod activator are shown below,

Step 2

next, extract the latest buttons, 8.1 as shown below.

you need to grab and copy the 4.10 online buttons

and copy in and replace the ones found here,

Congrats, your install is now modded and ready for online play

Part 2, what mods?

6DOF

first off, with this mod activator, JSGME is included. this is a big bonus, as it means you can copy the 6DOF enablers straight from your UP2.01 install into this one, and enable through JSGME.

navigate to your UP2.01 install, to the jsgmemods folder, which should look something like this,

copy whichever 6DOF enabler you are using in UP2.01, and copy into the jsgmemods folder in your 4.10.1 install.

enable in jsgme, and you now have 6DOF.

Sounds,

extract the sas sound mod you downloaded,

and copy into your jsgmemods folder in your 4.10.1 install,

enable through JSGME,

you now have sounds very similar to UP2.01 in your 4.10.1 install.

Further sound mods can be used via the mods folder in the normal way, such as jafas for those who so wish.

end of part 1, part 2 being typed up now!

Give Your X52 Some Feeling

Due to the G940 FFB dying, I wondered if I could get the X52 to shake as stall is approached. So I borrowed my sons Saitek rumble pad and attached it to the handle of the X52 stick to see if it worked

It did work
so I stripped the pad down

and removed the rumble unit

I then cut up the Saitek rudder pedal extension feet as I couldnt find a small container to house the rumble unit

I cut the rumble pad housing that held the unit

and extended the thin wires using some old speaker cable This was tricky and I didnt get the joypad board to feed the rumble unit at first attempt
I then had to find a housing for the joypad. Luckily it fitted an electrical double socked mounting after elongating a couple of holes in the circuit board of the joypad

After a couple of attempts I managed to drill holes in the right place on the blanking plate to allow the use of the 2 mini sticks and 10 buttons

After securing the wire to the joystick handle I tested it and it worked fine.

Total cost was £8 and now I have18 more buttons (using the SST software) and the stick judders if I leave the u/c down or approach a stall

San's IL-2 FOV Changer tutorial

Setting up San’s IL-2 FOV changer

Someone asked me to put together a how to for San’s IL-2 FOV changer so here it is.

The first thing you have to do is open up your IL-2 conf.inifile located in your main IL-2 directory.

Under the section [window] change SaveAspect=1 to 0.

Now look for a section named [DeviceLink] if it’s not there that is ok you just need to add it.

This is what needs to be in your conf.ini file for the FOV changer to function properly.

[DeviceLink]

Port=1711

IPS=

The last line IPS= you need to enter the local IP address of the machine you are on. If you are not sure you can either go Start\Run and type cmd. Then type ipconfig at the command prompt and hit enter:

Now download the latest version of the San’s IL-2 FOV changer.

http://il2fovchanger...vChanger_RC.zip

After installing the program go ahead and open it up.

You should see this.

Enable the Auto activate box. This will automatically start the FOV changer when you start a new flight in IL-2. Auto reactive automatically reactivates the FOV changer if communication is lost and should be enabled. Quick search accelerates the startup time but can cause graphics anomalies so if you have any problems disable this option. You can disable the Debug Tab if you’d like.

Now click on the settings tab.

Now this may or may not work for you. I believe if you have a CH joystick or Cougar joystick you may not have a problem however the program did not recognize my Thrustmaster T.Flight HOTAS X hatswitch so I had to do a couple of extra steps to get it working . And here is what I had to do. I first started up IL-2 and made sure that nothing was assigned to the arrow key cluster. Then I downloaded a nice little program called AutoHotKey which you can get here.

http://www.autohotke...tkeyInstall.exe

Install AutoHotKey.

During the install AutoHotKey is going to ask you which components you would like to install. Make sure everything is enabled including Drag and drop into scripts. Then click next and continue the install process.

Once the install finishes go toPrograms\AutoHotKey and click the AutoHotKey icon. You can right click on this icon and send a shortcut to the desktop which is what I like to do so I can easily fire up the program before starting IL-2. You can have the program auto start with Windows by making a shortcut in the Programs\Startup folder. The first time you start the program it is going to ask you if you would like it to create a sample script called AutoHotKey.ahk in the My Documents folder. Click yes.

This new script that was created in your My Documents folder will run every time you start AutoHotKey. The first time you run AutoHotKey you will be presented with the contents of the AutoHotKey.ahk script.

Now you want to delete everything in the script and replace it with the following code

#Persistent ; Keep this script running until the user explicitly exits it.

SetTimer, WatchPOV, 5

return

WatchPOV:

GetKeyState, POV, JoyPOV ; Get position of the POV control.

KeyToHoldDownPrev = %KeyToHoldDown% ; Prev now holds the key that was down before (if any).

; Some joysticks might have a smooth/continous POV rather than one in fixed increments.

; To support them all, use a range:

if POV < 0 ; No angle to report

KeyToHoldDown =

else if POV > 31500 ; 315 to 360 degrees: Forward

KeyToHoldDown = Up

else if POV between 0 and 4500 ; 0 to 45 degrees: Forward

KeyToHoldDown = Up

else if POV between 4501 and 13500 ; 45 to 135 degrees: Right

KeyToHoldDown = Right

else if POV between 13501 and 22500 ; 135 to 225 degrees: Down

KeyToHoldDown = Down

else ; 225 to 315 degrees: Left

KeyToHoldDown = Left

if KeyToHoldDown = %KeyToHoldDownPrev% ; The correct key is already down (or no key is needed).

return  ; Do nothing.

; Otherwise, release the previous key and press down the new key:

SetKeyDelay -1 ; Avoid delays between keystrokes.

if KeyToHoldDownPrev ; There is a previous key to release.

Send, {%KeyToHoldDownPrev% up} ; Release it.

if KeyToHoldDown ; There is a key to press down.

Send, {%KeyToHoldDown% down} ; Press it down.

return

VERY IMPORTANT!!!!!, 5th line down in the script you will see where it says JoyPOV. You may have to put a number in front of this depending on which controller your joystick is. I had to change mine to 3JoyPOV because of the order Windows put my game controllers. Now save the script and close it.

Now go back to San’s IL-2 FOV Changer and go to the settings tab.

Now under Keys: Global select None for no modifier. Now the way I set mine up is as such.

Under General Settings FOV I have everything set to 100 except for zoom which is 1.

Under Basic I have Start set to Left, Default set to Down. Increase and Decrease FOV I just set both to Space as they are not needed.

Start: = left

Default Fov: = down

Under Advanced under KEY select Up for the first box and Right for the second box from the drop down menus. Then for the Up key FOV I set a value of 65 deg. For the right key I set the FOV for 135 deg but you can of cause play around with these values until you find what you like. Don’t forget to hit apply. Now you have to have San’s IL-2 FOV changer running as well as the AutoHotKey program if you needed it.

IMPORTANT!!! You MUST have your arrow keys unmapped in your IL-2 controller settings or this will cause whatever function is mapped to that arrow key to trigger when you use your POV hat switch to change your FOV.

I sure hope this helps clear things up and look forward to more great nights of flying with all of you.

Skin Folders Part 1

Not everyone knows how to set up a skin folder for a new plane, so let me offer this to the group.

To create a Skin Folder that the game will see, you will first need to know the EXACT name that IL2 uses for that aircraft.

The exact name will be in the air.ini file. To find the air.ini file, go into your IL2 root folder and then look in files\com\maddox\il2\objects. There you will find the air.ini file.

Look in the air.ini file until you find the aircraft that you want to create a Skin folder for.

I will use the Spitfire MkI as an example.

In the air.ini file, it will be listed as:
SpitfireMkI air.SPITFIRE1 1 NOINFO gb01 SUMMER

Make a careful note of the first part of the aircraft name up to the: air.SPITFIRE1 part.

That name is what you will want to use in order to create a Skin folder that the game will see.

So for the Spitfire MkI, you would want a Skin folder named SpitfireMkI

As near as I can tell, these the are folder names of the aircraft that I think we will all be using. I’m not sure which version of the Spitfire MkII we’ll be using, so I’ve listed them both.

In QMB I can find a Hurricane MkI 12 Lbs '40

That corresponds to folder named: HurricaneMkI_BoB

That's the only aircraft description that I can find in QMB that mentions 12 Lbs. So until someone sets me straight, these would be the other folder names.

HurricaneMkIIa

SpitfireMkI

SpitfireMkIb

SpitfireMkIIa

SpitfireMkIIb

Skin Folders

How to change the default skins.

The ability to be able to change default skins along with 6dof, were the 2 reasons i first decided to first use mods, everything else has just been a bonus since then, imo they were and still are the 2 mods i'd hate to fly without most.

Right to do this, you need to download this mod first off,

Vpmedia's skinmod

I would upload mine which i customised but its currently 820 megs with all the defaults i've added into it, lol. This download is only 22 megs!

This wonderful mod allows you to set the default skin for all planes (almost, i'll come to that later), and not only one default, it lets you set,

summer default
winter default
desert default

Which of these defaults appears is due to the map thats loaded, because every map has a file called the load.ini, and one of the commands in that file is 'CAMOUFLAGE = SUMMER' If it is set as summer as in the example, the default 'summer' skin will appear, if the camouflage is set to winter in the map such as in moscow winter say, winter default skins will appear etc... There are three different camouflage settings for maps, summer, winter and desert. (a some of pacific maps are set to desert (but not many), so for US planes you can set a ETO and PTO version of the default skin for these maps.)

With this mod you can also set default skins by nationality as well, say for example i've set it up so i have a different default skin for a RAF mustang, than my default skin for the equivalent mark of US mustang.

These skins will also be applied to any static aircraft that have been placed by a mission builder as well which really adds to the immersion in campaigns and co-ops alike, as it turns for example this,

First, for this mod to work you must make sure that in the conf.ini the parameter "ClearCache" is set to "0", If you don't have this line add it to your [game] section.

Next download and extract to your IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 folder. It will create a Mods folder for you if you don't already have one in your UP install, or just add the skinmod to your mods folder if you already have one just click merge, when prompted.

You will now be able to start changing default skins

Right, to use the mod now!

This will appear much more complicated than it really is, once you've done it once its easy, probably takes me about 30 secs to change a default skin

So here is a step by step guide of how to change the default skin of in this case a A6M5b, something i hadn't got around to, so now was as good as time as any.

first go into the QMB, and in the enemy flights section select 1 A6M5b to be flying against you as shown below,

and go into the arming,

as you can see the 'current' default is the stock skin. Select the skin you wish to use as the new default,

and then quit the game.

Navigate to your 'cache' folder found in your paintschemes folder, and scroll down through all the weird named folders until you come across a A6M5b folder, as shown below

In that folder are 4 files, which are the files that determine the new default skin, copy these files.

Go into your mods folder and the skinmod folder then into 3Do and then into plane, and you will see something like this,

Find the A6M5b folder, and as you can see above, theres a couple, one marked (multi1) and one marked (ja) The difference between the 2 is how you can set specific skins for nationalities/airforces. In this example i'm just going to copy the files into the A6M5b(ja) folder, so this new default skin will only show up when either the IJN or IJA is selected for country to illustrate a point. The multi1 folder is used for the default skin of all nationalities save ones specifically with there own folder, in the case A6M5b(ja).

Go into the A6M5b folder and there will be a folder marked 'summer'. This is where you can add winter and desert default skins by adding a 'winter' or 'desert' folder or both, here in the mod and you would copy the 4 files from the cache that you had selected to be said skin,, not really applicable for the zero, but say a 109f4 its very useful. IMPORTANT, the 4 files in the cache will always be the LAST skin that you looked at for a plane.

Copy the four files from the cache that you copied earlier into the summer folder,

Restart the game, now when you go to the arming screen in the qmb a select a A6M5b, it will appear as,

as soon as i change to IJN/IJA the default skin changes to,

This is just a Summary, Guide, and Recommendations for using the UltraPack mod package. Much of this was copied from different sources. And some suggestions and recommendations from some of the Dogz.
GENERAL GUIDELINES

For a good quick guide for installing the game and the mods, checkout Pappy's UP 2.01 Installation Guide thread on the UltraPack site.

Installing the Game:
First, install the game. Then install the 4.08m & 4.09m patches.

If you are installing on Vista or Windows 7, you probably should NOT install the game in the default location (Program Files). This is because these OSs have a new security feature called UAC (User Account Control). In general: "It aims to improve the security of Microsoft Windows by limiting application software to standard user privileges until an administrator authorizes an increase or elevation." So, you may have problems enabling mods, since they copy files around in your game folder. Basically, your mods may not work.

To avoid this, just create another folder (I created C:My Programs) to install the game into that is not in your Program Files folder.

Or, just disable UAC altogether. You do this at your own risk. I did this, but I do still have a router firewall, software firewall, and antivirus running. To disable UAC, read this.

Installing the Mods:
1) Check our Vault, or download the mods here.
2) Make sure your download files are not corrupted. If you have problems with the game, you can use HashCalc to check the MD5 CheckSums of your download to ensure it downloaded correctly and is not corrupted.
3) Run the UP installer. It will first extract it's files to a temporary location and this takes several minutes, so just wait for it. Then it will ask were your game is installed. Select your game folder. If it asks you if you are installing a Client or Server game, select Client.
4) Also download and install any UP patches that the Dogz are currently using.

Flying Online: Be Compatible with the Host
To connect to the host to fly online there are just a few mods that are required to match the host. If the host is using these mods, you also must have them enabled.

- Any Zuti_DSMod Mod version.
or
- 00_Stock_4.09m

All other mods will not help in your compatibility with the host as far as I know.

Does the order of Enabling Mods matter?
Also, some mods may overwrite files that other mods are using. When this happens, the Mod Enabler program (jsgme) will ask you if you want to overwrite the other mods files (Yes or No). If you click yes, then that mod is the one that has all of it's files enabled correctly. If you click no, then it does not. Usually this does not make a big difference, as you may have one cloud mod versus another. But I would suggest it may be safest to enable the most important mods last and let them overwrite the others.

That would be the 6DOF Tracker mods or Client_Executable mods (only use one of these) and the Zuti mod if you are using it. Sid has pointed out that the 00_HUDConfig_v1 mod actually says that it should be enabled 'after' the Zuti mod and you will only lose some Zuti HUD functionality. But that is the only exception that I have heard of, but read the readme or tooltip that appears over a mod in jsgme for more info.

Graphics Settings:
For Older PCs (or PCs with 2gig or less memory) it is Recommended that you enable S3TC compression in your graphics card setup!!! The mods have increased the amount of textures and their sizes considerably and this really helps those with older PCs and graphics cards to avoid a CTD during mission loading or game launch. For example a few have had trouble loading the new Korea (KTO) map, but after turning on this compression, it was able to load and play just fine.

Launch IL2Set.exe (in the game folder), select Video tab, Choose Custom. Check ARB texture compression box and then select S3TC compression. This will update your conf.ini file in the game folder.

-or-

Open conf.ini in Notepad and set TexCompress=2 under the Render_OpenGL section like this:

[Render_OpenGL]
TexCompress=2
New Identification Tag for Planes (UP 2.01):

In UP 2.01 ALL the former AI flyables and the new Slot Planes are marked with either "*" or "~".
* - Planes which Flight Model is created/fixed/tweaked by Kwiatek or any other person from our community.
~ - Planes which FM is created by other individuals and members of other modding communities: "SAS, HSFX, aaa, C6, etc..."
ABOUT MOD PREFIXES:

About the "00", "01" and "02" prefixes in front of the mod names.

The mods starting with "00" can be activated in either UP or HSFX.
The mods starting with "01" can be activated only in UP (I haven't fully tested if MDS 1.1 can be used over HSFX, you can experiment though).
The mods starting with "02" can be activated after the HSFX switch.
MOD SUMMARY:

The game is considered 'modded' even when no mods are enabled. To fly just the stock 4.09m game, you need to enabled just one mod: 00_Stock_4.09m

These mods are mutually exclusive of one another. Each of them is a separate game executable file (il2fb.exe). Never enable more than one of these at a time.
TIPS FOR CONTROLLING SOME MOD SETTINGS:

Bomb Bay Doors
- Assign a key command to the new key command in your controls!
- Or, disable this feature and have the Bombs drop automatically like before by adding these lines to the bottom of your conf.ini

[Mods]
BombBayDoors=0
CUSTOMIZING YOUR MODS - ADDING MORE MODS
If you don't know what you are doing, you probably should not do this. Even if you do know what you are doing, you should probably make a complete backup of your game folder.

But if you are both brave and a little daring (crazy), take a look at Fruitbat's Guide to adding, tweaking, and just understanding how the mods work under the hood.
COMMON PROBLEMS:

Game Lockups/Crash to Desktop:
- If you are using one of the 1GB or 4GB CLIENT_Executables, try either enabling or disabling it.
- If you are using one of the 00_6DOF 1GB or 4GB Tracker mods, try either enabling or disabling it.

Mission Loading Errors / Errors connecting to a Host:
- Wrong Version: Make sure you are using the same version of the Zuti MDS mod as the host. Or if they are hosting the the Stock 4.09m mod, make sure you only have that one mod enabled.

- "Mission Loading Failed: MESH 3do/Humans/Paratroopers/Russia/mono.sim not created"
Use S3TC compression
(If that does not work, try this in your OpenGL section: TexFlags.TexCompressARBExt=1)

Mods just don't seem to work!:
- See the section at the top about Installing the Game. If you are using Windows Vista or 7, your system may not let the mods enable themselves.
