  1. Is this a birthday conspiracy? I mean - what are the odds of that? All 5 of you, born under the sign of the high-flying, er, scorpion(?), just ending up on this forum together. I shall be watching this situation closely . . . . . . none of which should stop you all from having a really good year!

  3. .. and additions to the wish list. I was getting eye-strain from the Hanns-G HZ281 that I bought a couple of years ago. Although it has a 27" 16:10 screen capable of 1920x1200 reso, it's let down by a fairly muddy colour / contrast setup ... so I passed it over to VJ, and set about robbing the housekeeping (again)! With money from the sale of Valda's 24" Digimate and a couple of ADSL routers I was able to secure an Iiyama ProLite with a one millisecond response time and a sharp and clear 'gaming mode' in the concise software. All my flight sims look much better on it. It was a banking error that set me off on my search for a new GPU. Unfortunately I gained access to one of my long-suffering wife's overspill accounts, all unbeknowing I must hasten to add, and bought myself an R9 280X - the one with the Twin Frozr cooling and 3 gigs of DDR5 VRAM. It was worth the beating I took but, fortunately, I got a good price for the two 6950s, sold a bunch of books, and managed to square the account within a week, phew! The graphics card was worth it all, even if it is just a rebranded 7970 with a few tweaks and better cooling. With the new, WHQL'd 14.9 Catalyst drivers things are looking up on the visual front! And the wish list? Well, it's all down to a rainbow ending somewhere around here; but another couple of Iiyamas, and a further 280X, for a Crossfired, wraparound vista is all I would need from this unlikely pot of gold here's looking at you, B
  4. Avira. It's German and it works very well. I've used it for over fifteen years. It doesn't embed and it doesn't do auto-renewals. It does, however, give a good discount if two or three years subscription are paid at once. Highly recommended.
  5. My brother-in-law took this. More to come...

  18. I have no idea what this relates to, but the picture and caption combine to make me laugh like a fool! Thanks, and the bill for the keyboard is in the post ...
  19. Hee hee! I must remember that one. Brando
  20. I had never used a gamer joystick before losing my arm (tho' I had used the small joysticks on plenty of mini-diggers!) It seemed natural to set the stick central - leaving space to site the mouse and keyboard on the left. And centre, preferably lower than the desk, just feels so right in a prop' sim! B
  21. I thought he went to work for the whole season?

    Beer 'n' skittles

The last time I saw a Lanc was from the car park in front of this house - my 12 'o clock straight down in the photo. I was loading the car when I heard Merlins nearby and getting louder, and it was a strange feeling - less airshow, more imminent raid. I looked up and saw the BBMF Lancaster just a couple of hundred feet overhead, with a Hurricane nailed to its tail keeping perfect formation. As I gazed gob-smacked. the wings dipped and they pulled a tight 180 to reverse course back towards Dawlish. I even got a wave from a crew member. It was a kind of moment of wonder which thrills me even to think of it.
