I have finished my spitfire and hurricane and I have sucessfully stripped back and repainted and redecaled my old spit IX and my tamiya zero to get much better finish - here are a few pics The hurricane is 1/48th from airfix , I added the flightpath etch set as cockpit was very bare - its a nice kit only let down really by the decals and the cockpit glass which is one piece, very thick but ill defined panel lines, if I make another Id go for an aftermarket set The spitfire is a tamiya mk1 and was a joy to build, it is a cracking kit, I used a xtradecal set for decals and stole some of the cockpit parts from the hurri set as you cant really see anything in that one once closed up I have learnt a few things like making sure paint is totally flat before decals- I have a set of fine grade sandpaper now and Im working on flat coat to get better finish but overall enjoyed the builds and pleased with how things turned out

The inputs write to the config.ini fileso make sure this isnt set to read only. If it isnt then you can manually edit the inputs in the config file but make sure you get the right ones. There is more info here http://mission4today.com/index.php?name=Knowledge_Base&op=show&kid=261 http://mission4today.com/index.php?name=Knowledge_Base&cat=7 I use this program to set up my joystick - it runs in windows outside the game so try this and see if it works http://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads&file=details&id=1021 Id recommend you get a proper joystick as I think it would make a big difference

Nice start Sid I understand your pain with airbrushes , still not got the hang of them properly but the finish is great when they work I started with canisters but gave up quickly, they always run out of stop flowing at the worst time , you need to get a compressor if you want to continue seriously from your suggestion Iv started a tips section so hopefully the airbrush gurus can give us both some help S
-
I thought Id start a hints and tips section , Ill start with my thoughts and hopefully others can add into it to help us all. Iv picked these up from the web and they have made a difference to my kits Here are some of my favourite sites with hints for modelers http://www.swannysmodels.com/ http://www.swannysmodels.com/Tools.html http://www.hyperscale.com/ http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/ http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?act=idx For a good step by step guide http://www.hyperscale.com/features/2001/gekkogc_1.htm http://www.hyperscale.com/features/2001/gekkogc_2.htm http://hyperscale.com/features/2002/gekkogc_3.htm My Tips Basic Tools 1) Modeler knife for trimming 2) Sandpaper 400 600 1000 1500 grit 3) Tweezers 4) Masking tape – Tamiya 5) Filler- revels plasto or squadron green are good 6) Superglue for small parts and wood glue for canopies – superglue will fog up clear canopies 7) Model glue- I use revells Bluetack and cocktail sticks for holding small pieces 9) Future/klear for protecting canopies and matting before using decals 10) Small scissors for decals /etch etc Paint I primarily use brushes – get decent ones and keep them clean I will be experimenting more with airbrush so will post back with my thoughts on this I like using Acrylics as they are quick to dry and easy to clean. I have only used them with brushes as they clogged my airbrush but Iv found this is a problem unless thinned – use the paint manufacturers thinner for best results I have used enamels in an airbrush and they worked well when thinned but Iv found brushes with acrylics quicker to use and less toxic Apply a primer before painting – either Tamiya or Halfords This aids the paint to adhere and also shows up any rough bits/seams/glue splotches etc which should be sanded and reprimed prior to painting Use thinner even when brush painting, it aids coverage and reduces brush marks. Paints should have the consistancy of milk when applying Apply a few thin coats rather than one thick one and leave to dry properly before next coat or varnish Most important thing Iv learnt is to try to have patience and not rush things – when things start going wrong to put it down and leave it until I have calmed down as by constant fiddling I usually make it worse and not better

I was going to do a big comparison test on this new 120HZ monitor but its hard to define It is certainly better, I can see detail much clearer and that small stutter seems to have gone as the plane changes from dot to plane at about 500m , I can see planes against ground better but can still lose them on certain maps , but I cant pin down what has improved this 1) there is my increase in speed from 8ms to 2ms 2) Increase in refresh from 60 to 120 HZ 3) On screen calibration - there are varied prebuilt setting and Im using a dynamic contrast one which seems best to me 4) Increased size I am very happy with it but couldnt honestly recommend 120hz as THE answer but a nice combination of the above has improved my graphics S

How much time would a normal pilot spend on this madness?
delta7 replied to Kimosabi's topic in Jim's Place
I average around 2 hrs a session and fly most nights Im not working I wait until kids are in bed so its late night mostly 9pm- 11ish Ill also spend around an hour on various forums a day so that adds up. It is addictive but Iv cut down a bit on what I used to do. -
wonder if it works on other things ? FT could you possibly help with the size of my pen..... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ...............cil
-
ITs here - no dead pixels initiall impressions is its very bright - have done the calibration and set to 120HZ get 80 fps av on black death with vsync on and looks great Ill see how it is online later on to see if it improves the draw as the lod becomes a plane

as host you can always set up an escort flight of AI fighters, these will at least follow the way points and the brief, unlike humans who tend, in true dogz fashion, to ignore this. YOu could even set these AI as flight 2 in a wing , and you take No 1 position in the wing and that way you will have command of them During the war the russian pilots were disciplined if they left the bombers alone, perhaps you could ready the dungeon for those dogz that run away and play without escorting you mate S
-
in coops its going to be hard as there are long icons and the defenders know where you are from the brief. so be sneaky either 1) go as fast and as low as you can and try to hit it before they arrive or 2) wait. go a long way round and hopefully the defenders will be busy when you arrive. fly past a grid to the side and check if its hot, if not then make your bomb run, if hot go around and come back in 2 mins with il2 you have to stay low as they are too slow. With others its a good idea to get high. I typically ingress at 6000m, drop to 3000m a grid out, fly past and then turn and drop while heading home. Only make ONE pass as otherwise you will get caught hope this helps
-
After a lot of toing-and-froing Iv ordered the samsung - Ill let you all know how it does when it arrives- hopefully soon - is it here yet.....is it here yet....is it.....

I plan to get a new monitor soon - I currently have a 19" viewsonic and plan to go to 22" but there is a reasonably priced 24" Benq at overclockers.co.uk The only problem is it looks HUGE in photos when sitting next to a 19", has anyone recently moved up from 19" to 22" or 24" and if so what are your impressions/ recommendations my thoughts are LGW2286L LED

I would not trust anything that whitesnake posts. He has made a few posts in the UKDED forums that have been shown to be questionable. He also makes some pretty blanket statements without qualifications or solutions. most of the settings in these sections are determined by your choises when you run il2setup or video options in game and are described here http://mission4today.com/index.php?name=Knowledge_Base&op=show&kid=27 IMHO the best place for tech support is mission4today and although some of their guides are old, they should give a sounder base for people to work on e.g. I havnt updated the conf guide for the newer drivers or mods but most of the basics are still there
