  1. Continuing the saga. Flew the trusty Spit offline yesterday for about 4hrs. Got to the point where I could takeoff, fly the pattern, make a curving approach, land and repeat without changing aircraft 3 out of 4 times. Then I took on the Las Vegas Tour (which I crashed trying before) and made the entire thing only missing one gate and landed and only polished one wingtip. Maybe another 50-60 hrs and I will start to feel comfortable enough to go shoot at things ?! Onward and upward!
  2. Refresh works for me on every page except "Browse Forums". No biggie as I can always find a way in. You can try and hide from me but I will find you ???!
  3. I'm trying Window's Edge and I get the same issues.. cannot access the forums via browse only thru read/unread content or content started.. weird..
  4. I have been using Firefox and never had a problem. I just tried Chrome on my tablet and all I get is that the site is not working and can't connect. I got here by looking at content I started. I can do work arounds but still no joy on just browsing forums. Guess I got a USA to UK issue on my end. Maybe because of the 4th of July ?!
  5. Is it just me or is anyone else having problems accessing the forums. If (and when) I can get it to log in, I cannot access the forums using the "Browse/Forums". I have to kind of back door my way around and can eventually get to where I can either read or post. I thought at first it was just a problem with my tablet version (Android) then I came to my PC using Windows 10 and I am having the exact problem. This started for me after yesterday's flying session. I see where others are still posting so I may be the only one having this issue. Thanks
  6. After today's venture into online dogfight server, I can truly attest to the fact that I am not "ready for prime time". I am still trying to conquer the aircraft handling, engine management, etc., so my situational awareness ain't happening. So me thinks I will stick offline and get comfortable in the cockpits before I go out and be target practice for the foes. 7 takeoffs, 5 shoot downs, two landings one of which me and the AC lived thru. BoX, CLoD and 1946 for me ???!

    T-38 Talon

Dust? That's what the antique world calls "patina" ??! Yeah, it was a tad dusty but I am really careful wiping it down as the decals are getting quite fragile.
  8. Didn't think about Reshade but that could be it. Never got it to work right anyway (won't respond to to whatever keys I use to turn it on or off) so I will just get rid of it. Other than that, running most everything high all is good at least off line. The problems I was having with lockups on the Normandy map seems to have gone away. I flew for a couple of hours and never had a problem today.
  9. Is anyone else getting that really strange colored screen just before you get the cockpit launch? Also, is the percentage of loading textures, terrains, etc., the new normal on 2.5.2 release? Just curious as nothing seems to be adversely affected.
  10. Wow... glad that in the end you got it sorted!

    T-38 Talon

Probably so as they sure flew the heck out of them! Not sure if the flight time was cheaper than flying first class though ?!

    T-38 Talon

In the "for what is worth" department, I am attaching some pictures of a desk model of an early T-38 Talon that I found at an antique shop in a small town about 30 miles from my home a few years back. Northrop used to give these out in the early `60s to squadron commanders, etc. I saw many on the desks of the flying officers I worked under during my stint as a simulator instructor from 1964 to 1975. I think I gave $25 for it and it stays displayed on a higher shelf in my living room.
  13. I've got 150+ hours in the P51 and I am halfway comfortable with it. I've got 10+ hrs in the Spit and I feel like I am trying to herd cats across a frozen pond ???! For every 10 flights in the Spit, I fly one in the 51 just to remind myself I can still "fly"... This too shall be overcome with practice. I've got a F86 and F5 waiting in the wings but I WILL beat the Spit in to submission before I touch them ?!
  14. I get that same really strange colored screen just before the game comes to life. Bizarre. But, I flew every map for about 10 minutes or so and everything seems to be working. Normandy looks and acts much better. Some of my key bindings disappeared, not sure how many yet and I may have to work on my TrackIR settings as they seem to be "not quite right".. dunno but will putz with it later. But I am done for the day.. Will be out tomorrow for physical therapy appt. Catch y'all Sunday if not before.
  15. This is gonna take awhile @ 6.8mb/s LOL! Good thing I don't have dialup...
  16. Land the Spitty? What's that mean? I can takeoff now with only 50% assist but me and the ground/dirt/runway are not friends.. had to jump in a P51 just to get my confidence back!
  17. Thanks Fen.. I had to do that.. downloading now! My updated needed updating as well.. two for one!
  18. Great news especially the freeze fixes for the Normandy map. Will fire up my machine and look for the update later..
  19. Got it started then fell asleep waiting for the Beau to warm up ???!
  20. Yay me.. took off 5 times in a row in the Spitfire and only wobbled but didn't fall down... landings.. not so much success.. beautiful approaches with beautiful bounces, assorted wing tip polishing, flips and such.. managed to get down after about 10-11 attempts in one piece and only ground looped right at the end. Me thinks it is my airspeed as I need to adjust my glasses to see the indicator better, but it could be I am just putting on a show for the civilians on the base.. either way, progress. Fen - the stick pitch settings seem to be spot on for me, thanks for that.. I need to work on roll a bit... My PC and the Normandy map don't seem to like each other much especially if I am near the coast on takeoff. Stutters and solid lock-ups that I have to cntrl-alt-delete out of.. doesn't happen on the Caucasus or Nevada.. doesn't happen every time if I can get away from the coast quickly and I am not sure the coast is the culprit until I test some more... Fun and games and I am up to the challenge!!! Carry on!
  21. Thanks all! I was just putzing around yesterday on our CloD server and letting the Spit continue to beat me up in DCS. Thought I would try the Beau for some relaxing...well I was relaxed as I never got off the ground ?!
  22. Okay will try that later...I think I had them on "outer" . Is the third fuel lever supposed to be up or down? Thanks!
  23. Tried, failed, still parked. Anyone provide the starting sequence for the Beau? I am missing something (obviously) as all I get is one or two revolutions of the prop and engine stops.. got the mags on, the fuel (I think) selected but no go.. help an old man out for future reference please.
  24. 12 takeoff attempts, 3 takeoffs completed that looked like a drunken monkey. One training landing pattern, landed without breaking anything and then commenced to ground loop 4-5 times.. damn the Spit is "twitchy" compared to the 51. Got a lot of tweaking to do on controls and key bindings in my future with this warbird :-0 !
  25. I now have (including the new stuff I bought today); Caucasus, Nevada and Normandy maps. P51, Spit, F5, F86. Also got a couple of campaigns for the 51 & Spit. Think I will start with learning the basics of the Spit first, then the F86, then the F5. There is only so much my mushy old brain can absorb so I think I am done with aircraft. The modern stuff would require more time that even I can give them. Plus I am not sure I have the brain power or reflexes. Carry on!
